As a destination wedding photographer, few experiences compare to capturing a love story in the stunning South of France. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing Vanessa & Joshua’s breathtaking wedding at Chateau de Valmousse, an elegant French chateau nestled in the heart of Provence.
From the sun-drenched gardens to the timeless stone architecture, every corner of Château de Valmousse is designed for unforgettable moments. Planned and organised to perfection by the lovely Freya from Weddings by Freya Jane this one was a bit magical!

The Charm of Chateau de Valmousse, Provence.
Chateau de Valmousse is an exceptional choice for couples planning a luxury destination wedding. With its historic façade, manicured gardens, and intimate courtyards – it provides a stunning backdrop for wedding photography. As a destination wedding photographer, I appreciate how the venue combines timeless French elegance with natural beauty, creating images with a truly cinematic feel.
The day unfolded with a heartfelt outdoor ceremony in the château’s magnificent gardens. Surrounded by the beauty of the château’s serene lake, J & V exchanged their vows before their closest family and friends. Fleurs D’Atelier created absolutely stunning florals, adorning the aisle and crafting a gorgeous floral arch that became the centerpiece of the ceremony.

Bridal Preparations at Chateau de Valmousse.
The morning began slowly and beautifully in the bridal suite at Chateau de Valmousse, one of my favourite parts of the day to photograph as a destination wedding photographer. There’s something incredibly special about those quiet, anticipatory hours before the celebration truly begins — the laughter, the music playing softly in the background, and the gentle excitement shared between close friends.
I met Vanessa in the chateau’s historic suite, a light-filled space with soaring ceilings, tall French windows, and elegant period furnishings that perfectly reflected the timeless charm of the venue. The soft Provence sunlight poured through the glass, creating the most flattering natural light — a dream setting for relaxed, refined wedding photography.
Surrounded by her closest girls, Vanessa spent the morning getting ready at an unhurried pace. There were candid moments of laughter, final touches of makeup by the talented team at Emmam, and the simple joy of being together before the ceremony. For her unforgettable day, Vanessa chose a beautiful gown by Dando London.
By the windows, the light was simply magical. I photographed Vanessa with her bridesmaids gathered around her, the old stone walls and delicate décor of Chateau de Valmousse adding texture and romance to every frame. The combination of the chateau’s historic character and the natural light created soft, fine-art portraits that felt both elegant and effortless.
It was the perfect, peaceful beginning to a beautiful French destination wedding day.

An Elegant Château Wedding Ceremony in Provence.
After a calm and joyful morning in the bridal suite, the anticipation began to build as it was time for the ceremony. One of the most beautiful things about photographing a wedding at Chateau de Valmousse as a destination wedding photographer is how seamlessly the day flows from the grandeur of the house into the romance of the surrounding gardens and countryside.
Vanessa made her way down the chateau’s sweeping staircase and at the bottom of the stairs, she was met by her brother – a simple but incredibly meaningful moment that felt both intimate and emotional. Together, they walked through the house and out into the warm Provence air, where their guests were waiting by the lake.
The ceremony space was set just outside the chateau, overlooking the water and surrounded by nature. With friends and family gathered on either side of the aisle, the setting felt effortlessly romantic — the kind of scenery that makes a French destination wedding so special. As a destination wedding photographer, these outdoor ceremonies are always a dream to capture: natural light, soft movement in the trees, and genuine emotion unfolding without interruption.
At the top of the aisle, Joshua waited patiently – seeing Vanessa for the first time as she walked towards him. With the lake behind them and the chateau standing proudly in the distance, they exchanged vows surrounded by the people who matter most — a perfectly elegant and heartfelt ceremony in the South of France.

Garden Cocktails at Château de Valmousse.
Following the ceremony by the lake, the celebrations flowed effortlessly into the gardens of Chateau de Valmousse, where guests gathered for cocktails in the warm afternoon sunshine. This part of the day always feels wonderfully relaxed — the formalities complete, the nerves gone, and the real joy of the celebration beginning.
With the chateau standing proudly in the background, its historic stone façade glowing softly in the Provence light, friends and family spilled out onto the lawns, glasses of champagne and cocktails in hand. Laughter carried through the gardens as guests reunited, hugged tightly, and shared stories from the day so far. It’s these in-between moments that often become some of the most meaningful memories.
We also took the opportunity for relaxed group portraits with the beautiful Chateau de Valmousse as the backdrop. The elegance of the architecture paired with the soft garden setting created the perfect frame for timeless family photos and joyful wedding party shots. Keeping everything outdoors meant guests could stay present, enjoying the celebration while we captured those important images quickly and effortlessly.
With golden light beginning to settle over the grounds, it felt less like a formal reception and more like an intimate garden party in the South of France — exactly the kind of atmosphere couples dream of when planning a luxury destination wedding.

An Al Fresco Wedding Breakfast Beneath the Trees | French Destination Wedding Photographer.
As the sun began to dip lower over Chateau de Valmousse, the celebration moved into one of the most magical parts of the day — the wedding breakfast. Set beneath a canopy of tall trees and soft fairy lights, the evening glowed with an intimate, magical atmosphere.
Long tables were laid out al fresco across the gardens, creating an elegant, communal setting that perfectly suited the relaxed luxury of a destination wedding in France. Crisp linens, soft candlelight, and delicate florals styled at each end of the tables added colour and texture without overpowering the natural beauty of the surroundings. The design felt refined and effortless — timeless rather than trend-led — which complemented the historic charm of Chateau de Valmousse so beautifully.
As a destination wedding photographer, these thoughtful details are always such a joy to capture. From the way the fairy lights hung gently between the trees to the soft glow of the candles as evening approached, every element worked together to create the most incredible atmosphere.
As the sky turned golden and the fairy lights began to sparkle overhead, the gardens transformed into the dreamiest open-air dining space — a perfect South of France evening and a stunning setting for a luxury chateau wedding celebration.

Intimate Couple Portraits in the Gardens of Château de Valmousse.
As the light began to soften later in the afternoon, we slipped away for a few quiet moments together around the beautiful grounds of Château de Valmousse.
This is always one of my favourite parts of the day as a French destination wedding photographer. After the excitement of the ceremony and cocktails, everything feels calmer. The timeline slows, the nerves have faded, and couples can simply be present with each other. It’s often when the most natural, meaningful photographs happen.
We took a gentle walk through the château’s French gardens, wandering along gravel paths framed by manicured greenery and historic stone walls. The setting felt effortlessly elegant — classic Provence charm at every turn. The soft golden light filtering through the trees gave everything the most romantic glow, wrapping the gardens in that dreamy South of France warmth that makes destination weddings here so special.
Rather than overly posed portraits, I kept things relaxed and natural. Vanessa and Joshua held hands, laughed together, and took it all in — those in-between moments that feel authentic and full of emotion.
As a destination wedding photographer in France, I’m always drawn to using a venue’s surroundings in a way that feels organic, allowing the location to enhance the story without overpowering it. The gardens gave us space to create elegant, editorial-style images while still feeling intimate and personal to them.

Al Fresco Dining as the Sun Set.
As the day gently turned into evening, guests were treated to an unforgettable al fresco wedding meal beneath the open skies of Château de Valmousse. The gardens, still bathed in the soft glow of the setting sun, created a warm and intimate atmosphere, perfect for this final chapter of the celebration.
The rustic charm of the château’s stone walls and the surrounding French gardens provided a stunning frame, while the golden hour light wrapped everyone in a soft, romantic glow — the kind of moment every destination wedding photographer dreams of capturing.
Guests laughed, shared stories, and clinked glasses as the couple moved gracefully through the tables, soaking in the joy of being surrounded by family and friends. The combination of natural light, open air, and the serene gardens made every detail — from table settings to floral arrangements — shine in a way that felt both luxurious and effortless.

Dancing into the Evening.
After their first dance, Vanessa and Joshua were quickly joined by their friends and family on the dance floor, glasses of cocktails in hand. The atmosphere was full of joy and movement — laughter, clinking glasses, and spontaneous celebrations under the soft glow of the fairy lights.
As a destination wedding photographer, these are some of my favourite moments to capture: unposed, energetic, and full of life. Guests twirled, hugged, and danced freely across the gardens of Château de Valmousse, creating images that perfectly reflect the fun and emotion of a luxury French wedding celebration.
