A Magical Winter Wedding at Christmas Time in Shere Village.
When you think of a dreamy winter wedding, a snowy village nestled in the English countryside might just be the scene that comes to mind. Now, picture this: your intimate wedding set against the backdrop of Shere Village in Surrey – one of the most charming and picturesque spots in the UK. Known for its starring roles in films like The Holiday and Bridget Jones’s Diary, Shere is the epitome of English countryside beauty – especially during the magical Christmas season.
For fans of The Holiday, this idyllic village offers a slice of the English countryside where the magic of a Christmas romance truly comes to life – So, what better place could there have been for Amy & Alex to exchange their vows at Christmas time ahead of their big celebration in South Africa next March?
The quaint streets, cozy cottages and twinkling Christmas lights created the perfect atmosphere for their intimate winter wedding.

Shere Village Wedding Photography – The Perfect Place for a Romantic, Intimate Winter Wedding.
Shere’s charm lies in its simplicity – a quiet spot that was just perfect for Alex & Amy’s smaller, more intimate wedding.
Having booked my elopement package for 3 hours coverage I started the day by greeting Alex and his groomsmen at The White Horse pub – which was one of the filming locations for a scene in the popular Christmas film, The Holiday. Alex and their guests then made their way through the cobbled streets of Shere to the village church, the Christmas decorations on the cottages added an extra touch of festive magic.

An Intimate Ceremony at St James Church in Shere.
With its medieval architecture, stunning stained-glass windows, and peaceful atmosphere, St. James Church provided an elegant backdrop for Amy & Alex to exchange their vows – The church, which has been a place of worship since 1190 had embraced the Christmas spirit with a huge Christmas tree with twinkling fairy lights.
Amy arrived in style in a navy blue vintage Jaguar. I loved Amy’s chic Nadine Merabi jumpsuit and Alex and his groomsmen looked stylish all in black tie.

St James Church in Shere – An Intimate & Cosy Winter Wedding.
Inside St James church in Shere was warm and inviting – it felt intimate and cosy but it also had an elegant grandeur to it – with its rich wood beams and stone architecture. Amy’s dad walked her down the aisle and Alex was waiting for her at the alter.

Capturing the Magic of a Winter Wedding Reception in Shere Village.
After exchanging their vows Amy & Alex made their way back out onto the cobbled streets of Shere where they were congratulated by their guests. We then had a little bit of time to capture some group shots and couple shots before everyone made their way through the village to one of Shere’s cozy venues nearby – Kinghams restaurant for a drinks reception and a bite to eat where I then said goodbye.
The frosty winter sky, crisp air and low afternoon sun created a soft, golden light perfect for wedding photography, and the quaint village of Shere, with its cobbled streets and thatched-roof cottages offered the perfect backdrop. It was so lovely to be a part of their Shere elopement and have the honour of photographing this wonderfully intimate celebration at Christmas.

Photography was absolutely one of the most important aspects of the wedding for us. I knew straight away we had to have Gem as our photographer. We paid to fly her over to France & it was so worth it, we were speechless when we got our photos. They reflect how special the day was to us & we can’t stop looking at them & remembering all the moments from the day.
